We are honored to introduce you to our incredible Program Director for the One Hope Home, Tamireka! She officially started this week and wrote up a little bit about herself to share with all of you. Tami has already shown to be a great addition to the team, and if you serve in the home, you will have the privilege of working closely with Tami.
A little about me…
My name is Tamireka Exum, lots of times I am known by Tami or Tam, both nick names are perfectly fine with me. I grew up in the inner city of Milwaukee the majority of my life but had the resources to experience some middle and all of high school in the suburbs of Wauwatosa, where I graduated from Wauwatosa West.
Having such a strong based faith in God and being in tune with my purpose in life, that faith has always led my decisions and drive in life to be a person of support and kindness when needed.
I attended college firstly at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, and finished my undergraduate career at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2016. Shortly after graduating, I became a mom of a wonderful little boy, Ahmad, in 2018.
Since graduating in 2016, I’ve worked diligently in the inner City of Milwaukee and surrounding areas with Nonprofit and community based organizations. Working in a variety of places with a vastly different population, I’ve always found the common theme of me providing services in the mental health and life enhancement aspect for youth and adults.
In 2019, I went back to school at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, to complete my Masters Degree in the School of Education. There I took up Cultural Foundations of Community Engagement and Education, where I was able to enhance my skills and knowledge in working with a wide variety of people and populations on how the community can assist community members with life enhancement and achieving goals. I am passionate about helping the community improve its current state by being a person of resource and consistent assistance when needed.
In my free time, I enjoy painting, puzzling, taking walks, spending time with my son and other family and friends, and also enjoying good suspenseful movies or T.V. Series. My son is a little basketball lover, so I am also looking forward to being a sports mom in the near future. =)
Welcome to the neighborhood. I was not available to come to the open house, but I’m interested in volunteering. I am in and out of town being retired for 5 years. I was an Activity Director for long term the last facility was Luther Manor for almost 20 years. I enjoy most arts, storytelling and writing stories. I have lead many creative groups with seniors and children of all ages. I also speak at local, state and National Activity Professional Conferences. I look forward to sharing.
