Care for “the least of these”

My family is extremely blessed to attend a church with a heart for foster care and adoption. This concept of caring for “the least of these” has been taught and modeled by our leadership as many on the pastoral staff have fostered/adopted. That has created a wonderful culture of fostering in our church.

We often have the extreme privilege of meeting with an individual or couple from church to walk and talk them through the process of becoming a licensed foster parent. I Love nothing more than helping someone through this process and seeing them take up the God-given mandate to care for theorphan 3. One that lacks support, supervision, or care.

Another one of my favorite things that comes from this great culture of care within or church, is seeing others come along side to love on foster children and support fostering families. A friend who loves our children immensely said to me recently “I always had a heart to foster, but never got around to it and am no longer at an age where I feel I can take that on”. To that I explained the importance of what she does in loving my foster children as her own. She shows them God’s love every time she greets them with kind words and a warm smile, every time she lights up when she sees our foster baby and snuggles him close. This amazing woman is playing just as important a role in foster care as we are. As is the friend who brought our family a delicious meal (Gluten free and all), and the one who donated clothing to us after we received most recent foster placement, and also the great woman of God who prays for our family and our foster children daily.

Yes, we are blessed to be a part of this loving church, this great group of people who “get it”. Everyone is called to care for “the least of these” what can your church do, what can you do to make a difference in the life of a foster child or fostering family today?
